Words to mute

Sintel has no swearing, so try muting “dragon”.

Is there a list for your movie?

Search before you install. Each list matches one version of a film, so timings line up with what you're watching.

0 titles have a list so far. Try “Sintel”.

Set it once. Then just watch.

  1. Add ViewersCut to Chrome

It stays out of the way until something plays.

  2. Choose what to filter

Pick an action and a threshold for each kind of moment. These defaults apply everywhere, and you can change them for one title.

  3. Press play

ViewersCut finds the list for what you're watching. A small notice says what it changed, so you can always watch anyway.

Your filters

Applies to every title
Language mild and up
Sex and nudity mild and up
Violence moderate and up
Substances not filtered
Frightening strong only

Black out covers just the part of the frame a list marks, like a wound, when the list has a box for it. Slurs are always muted while Language is on, and you can allow specific words.

The film stays untouched

ViewersCut only controls playback in your browser. It never copies or edits the video.

Open

Lists are public-domain files and the code is public. Anyone can check a list, fix it or build on it.

Lists are made by viewers like you.

Mark a scene while you watch by pressing [ and ], nudge a timing until it sounds right, and send it. Your edits stay on your computer until you choose to send them. Every change is public, and anything that removes or shortens a moment waits for a second reviewer.

A list describes what happens and when. It never says what to do: your filters decide that.

Questions

Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome on a computer today. Other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave should work too. Firefox and Safari aren't supported yet.
Does it work on my TV or phone?
An Android app for phones and Android TV is in early testing. On iPhone, iPad and other TVs, not yet.
What if there's no list for my movie?
Make one yourself with the editor built into the extension, while you watch. Even one tagged moment helps the next viewer.
Do I still need Netflix, Disney+ and the rest?
Yes. You watch on your own subscriptions. ViewersCut doesn't provide any films.
Who makes the lists, and can I trust them?
Volunteers. Every change is public, new moments go live quickly, and removals or shortened timings need a second reviewer. If a list misses something, fix it from the editor.
